Description
The villa is an ancient building dating from the late 14th century situated in peaceful position on the hills that look over the plain of Lucca.
In origin the villa was the hunting house of Paolo Guinigi, a member of a powerful family who possessed many palaces and towers inside the walls of Lucca and many villas in the surrounding countryside. Paolo Guinigi governed Lucca from 1400 to 1430 and was the husband of Ilaria del Carretto, whose funeral monument, sculpted by Jacopo della Quercia, is housed in the Duomo of Lucca.
Over time the villa has been renovated with an eye to preserving its original architectural elements and materials, such as the beamed ceilings, the terracotta-tiled floors and the frescoes decorating the main living room. The rooms are furnished in rustic style with some antiques.
The villa stands on the slope of a hill and enjoys a wonderful view over the plain of Lucca.
The villa is the ideal accommodation for those who want to visit important Tuscan cities of art, such as Lucca, Pisa, Volterra and San Gimignano, but also wish to discover Garfagnana natural beauties, or spend some time on the coast of Versilia: Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, with their beaches and trendy discos and pubs, are within short driving distance.
The Outdoors
The building is surrounded by a wide garden divided into three natural terraces, where are the private swimming pool (10x5 m; depth: 1.50-3 m), a large loggia furnished for having meals al fresco and the ancient lemon house, which has been converted into a covered terrace.
The barbecue equipment and a table-tennis table are at guests' disposal.
