Description

Villa Antica is a historical villa built between the 13th and 18th centuries, which today lies right at the centre of a big farm producing Chianti wine and Tuscan olive oil. The villa is situated on the hills surrounding Florence, in the vinicultural region called Chianti Colli Fiorentini. Immersed in the green countryside and standing in panoramic position with vineyards and olive groves stretching as far as the eye can see, the farm is the ideal accommodation for having relaxing holidays far from the chaotic city life but at the same time just a few kilometres from Florence city centre and from other Tuscan historical cities.

Florence is just 10 kilometres from the villa and other Tuscan cities, such as Siena, Pisa, Arezzo and Volterra are just a few dozen kilometres. From Villa Antica, Florence historical centre can be easily reached in about 30 minutes by bus or train: the bus stop is 1 kilometre from the villa with frequent Sita buses leading to Piazza Stazione in Florence, whereas Rignano sull`Arno railway station is 7.5 kilometres from the farm (about every hour a train leads to Santa Maria Novella, Florence main railway station, right in the city centre). The use of public transport will spare guests the "difficult" task of looking for a parking in Florence.

The Villa is the centre of the whole farm. Around the building situated on the hillside various ancient farmhouses are scattered in the green and relaxing countryside. The houses have been renovated paying particular attention to their rural character and feature beamed ceilings and terracotta-tiled floors.


Facilities

A 17th-century tower dominates the swimming pool, open from May to September and measuring 9x8x1.35 metres.

Villa Antica offers many opportunities of doing sports: guests can rent mountain bikes, horse ride in the riding stables just a few kilometres from the farm, play tennis and five-a-side football, dedicate to fitness and relax in the sauna or in the hydromassage pool at the neighbouring tennis club, with whom the farm has an agreement. Children can play in a small playground.


Services

The nearest village is San Donato in Collina, lying just 700 metres from the farm. Here there are some food shops, cafés, a greengrocer, a newsagent and a post office. In Troghi, just 1 kilometres from the villa, there are a chemist, a bank, a petrol station and other shops.

Possibility of visiting Villa Antica wine cellars and oil-mill, attending cooking courses and art courses, organising guided tours at the discovery of unusual aspects of Florence and Tuscany and visiting artisan businesses.

The ground floor consists in 1 double bedroom, 1 bathroom with shower and a small storeroom with washing machine. The first floor features a large room; a big arch connects the dining room with kitchenette to the living room with satellite TV. CASA VILLA (16+4 sleeping accommodations) is a 340-m² farmhouse immersed in an olive grove and situated in panoramic position, overlooking the surrounding hills, the Valdarno and Vallombrosa mountains. The building was renovated in 2003 paying attention to its rural character and features beamed ceilings and terracotta-tiled floors. The farmhouse accommodates 16/20 people in 8 bedrooms and 2 sofa beds (6 bathrooms with shower) and disposes of a large kitchen sitting up to 20 people. The comfortable furniture has been carefully chosen. The garden surrounding the building is furnished with tables, chairs, sunshades and barbecue equipment. Casa Villa disposes of a covered parking lot. The swimming pool shared with the other guests of the farm lies 200 metres from the building.
