The Museo delle Sinopie has already been mentioned in one of the previous chapters. Now we want to talk about the Museo dell`Opera del Duomo, which is situated in Piazza dei Miracoli.

Inaugurated in the mid-1980s, the museum is located in the Palazzo dei Canonici del Duomo (the building dates back to the 13th century). It composes of 23 rooms - 10 of which are on the ground floor and 13 on the first floor - where are exhibited masterpieces and objects coming from the buildings that stand in Piazza dei Miracoli.

Particularly interesting are: the so-called "treasure of the Duomo", which consists in ancient liturgical codices, silverware and vestments of excellent design; Egyptian antiquities, which arrived in Pisa thanks to a 19th-century expedition financed by Leopold II; a sculpture representing Julius Caesar dating back to 30 BC; and, last but least, the wooden models of the Cathedral, of the Leaning Tower and of the Baptistery, as well as an alabaster reproduction of the Campo dei Miracoli.

In proximity to the Museo dell`Opera del Duomo is the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo. Created immediately after the end of World War II, it houses works by Nicola and Giovanni Pisano, Masaccio and Ghirlandaio, Simone Martini and Andrea della Robbia. It is considered the major picture gallery of Pisa.

Our last tip is dedicated to those who have rented a typical Tuscan country villa instead of a villa in Pisa: the Museo “Giovanni Alberto Agnelli” is situated in Pontedera, in Viale Reginaldo Piaggio 7. The entrance is free and guided visits are organised upon request. The museum houses over 100 Vespa, Piaggio and Gilera motor-scooters.
