The legend goes that Keith Haring got the inspiration for the mural on the external wall of the Church of Sant`Antonio Abate, which is set among the palaces and the villas in Pisa in the quarter entitled to the patron saint of domestic animals from an accidental encounter with a Tuscan student who was on holiday in New York.

What is true is that the town of the Leaning Tower can count among its artistic treasures "Tuttomondo". The mural by the American painter born in Reading, Pennsylvania, who died in 1990 just a few months after having finished it, covers an area 180 square metres, features 30 colourful figures and is dedicated to universal peace.

Harding`s mural, though, is not the sole piece of evidence of the tight relationships existing between Pisa and the art. The many Pisan masterpieces fruit of the work of talented personalities dating back to the past centuries have been already mentioned in other chapters of this tourist guide to Pisa.
