Maremma is a wide region in southern Tuscany embraced by the range of Colline Metallifere (north), the hills of Orbetello (south), Mount Amiata (east) and the Tyrrhenian Sea (west). Grosseto lies right at its centre. A wonderful region still relatively unknown to mass tourism, Maremma is rich in breathtaking, mostly unspoilt and... wild landscapes!

Maremma is a region rich in history, which was inhabited by the Etruscans and the Romans . Thanks to its mines and agricultural resources, it experienced the industrial revolution and the post-world-war-2 economic boom, but at the same time it has been able to protect its nature creating marvellous parks and nature reserves, such as the Parco dell`Uccellina .

A holiday in Maremma offers plenty of landscape and nature beauties: from the wonderful tufa towns built on sheer rocks (like Pitigliano and Sovana ) to the hills of Fiora , which included picturesque Mount Amiata , the ideal setting for amusing walks and bike and horseback rides. Maremma is rich in interesting archaeological sites (including Populonia and Vetulonia ). Its sandy beaches, from Follonica to Argentario , are a wonderful setting for scuba diving. Maremma includes also the charming islands of Giglio and Giannutri . The central part of the region is rich in villas , farmhouses and holiday farms. In the famous spa resorts of Saturnia and Petriolo tourists can relax and recharge their batteries.

Like any other Tuscan region, Maremma is renowned for its cuisine! Maremma is, in fact, the land of excellent wines, such as Ornellaia , Sassicaia and the widely renowned Morellino di Scansano , which matches perfectly with Maremma cuisine. Traditional dishes are made with ingredients coming from the sea, the countryside and the mountain. Maremma is widely renowned for its delicacies, such as truffles, ham, saffron and botargo, but also for more traditional products, such as pecorino cheese and extra-virgin olive oil.
