Valdinievole is a valley in northern Tuscany, at the foot of Pistoia Apennines. Its name means "the valley of the Nievole river". In the past, the region was a marshland and was therefore called "valle della nebbia" (valley of fog) or "valle delle nuvole" (valley of clouds), due to the assonance - in Italian - of these two names with the word Nievole. In Valdinievole, hills covered with chestnut and olive groves, culminating with the Montalbano, slope towards the wide plain of the Padule di Fucecchio, a natural reserve.

Valdinievole is the name of a region stretching in northern Tuscany, in the province of Pistoia, surrounded by Pistoia Apennines and the Montalbano, on the north and on the east, the basin of the Padule di Fucecchio, on the south, and Lucca plain, on the west. The name of the valley comes from the Nievole torrent, which flows through it together with Pescia Maggiore (or Pescia di Pescia) and Pescia Minore (or Pescia di Collodi). Valdinievole includes the municipalities of Buggiano, Chiesina Uzzanese, Lamporecchio, Larciano, Massa e Cozzile, Monsummano Terme, Montecatini Terme (the most important town in the area), Pieve a Nievole, Pescia, Ponte Buggianese and Uzzano.
