Palazzo dell`Orologio (Clock Palace) stands in Piazza dei Cavalieri, right in front of the Scuola Normale Superiore. It is the result of the union of two pre-existing towers. Count Ugolino della Gherardesca, whom Dante mentioned in his "Divine Commedy", died by hunger in the tower on the right, which is called "Torre della fame" (Hunger Tower).
Palazzo Agostini is situated in Lungarno Pacinotti, not far from Ponte di Mezzo. The easily distinguishable red building is the last terracotta-tiled palace in Pisa. Since 1775 it hosts the Caffè dell`Ussero, where celebrities of the calibre of Giosuè Carducci, Filippo Tommaso Marinetti, Carlo Goldoni and John Ruskin used to spend their days.
The Logge dei Banchi, in Piazza XX Settembre, in Mezzogiorno district. Even though they are not a palace, they are equally worth a visit. The big loggia was built in the early 17th century to host a wool and silk market.
Palazzo Gambacorti is the town hall. The 14th-century building stands next to the Logge dei Banchi. Its rooms are decorated with magnificent frescoes that illustrate to tourists the most important events in the history of Pisa.
