If you have planned to spend your next holidays in Tuscany and you have rented a
villa
or a
farmhouse in Siena
or in its neighbourhood for one or more weeks, you can choose among different ways to get to the town of the Palio.
By plane
Florence Amerigo Vespucci and Pisa Galileo Galilei are the nearest airports to Siena.
Once landed in one of these two towns, reaching your holiday destination will be a child`s play.
But do not forget that Ciampino and Fiumicino, Rome airports, are within easy distance as well, whereas the small airport in Ampugnano, in the province of Siena, offers an aerotaxi service.
By train
If once landed in Florence, Pisa or Rome you do not want to drive, and you do not like travelling by coach, hop on a train and enjoy the Tuscan countryside.
How long does a travel to Siena by train take? From Florence it takes about an hour, from Pisa approximately two hours and from Rome no more than three hours.
By car
Coming from South, take the A1 motorway and exit at Valdichiana, then take the Bettolle-Siena slip road.
Coming from North, either take the A1 motorway up to Valdichiana (and then the Bettolle-Siena) or exit at Firenze-Certosa and take the so-called Autopalio expressway to Siena.
By coach
Various coach companies serve the Florence-Siena and Rome-Siena lines.
