Siena is divided into the Terzi di Camollia, di Città and di San Martino, each of which includes some of Siena`s seventeen contrade.

In the last few years, trekking has come in fashion among tourists.
If you have rented a villa or a farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside, you will have wonderful walks surrounded by hills, white roads, sunflowers and vines. But if you have decided to spend some days in Siena in holiday villa or in a farmhouse just outside the city walls, you could trek in single Terzi composing the town.

The Terzo di Città stretches in the south-western part of Siena and includes the contrade of Selva, Aquila, Onda, Tartuca, Chiocciola and Pantera.
The Via Francigena (or Romea), which connects Rome to the most important European cities, passes through part of this Terzo, which is probably the most ancient area of Siena`s historical centre.

Strolling in this Terzo means visiting the Duomo, with its black and white marble decorations; the complex of Santa Maria della Scala, one of the most ancient hospitals in Europe; the Botanical Gardens and Palazzo Chigi Saracini, a palace dating back to the 14th century that hosts the headquarters of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana (whose list of distinguished students includes such important musicians as Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado and Riccardo Chailly).
