To the Uffizi Gallery we have dedicated the previous chapter of this tourist guide. Now it is time to discover the other museums housed in the Florentine palaces and villas.
Our tour could begin with the Galleria dell`Accademia, where tourists can admire the David, the famous white marble statue that Michelangelo sculpted between 1501 and 1504.
Recently in the gallery, which houses also a model of the "Rape of the Sabine" by Giambologna, has been created a Department of Musical Instruments, where are exhibited about forty instruments that in the past belonged to the Medicis and to the Lorraine family (including a Stradivari violin and the most ancient existing upright piano).
After having visited the museums of the Polo Museale Fiorentino, you could visit Frederick Stibbert`s house.
Born in Florence in 1838 from an English father and a Tuscan mother, Stibbert was a trader and a devotee of art, antiques and travels who, during his many journeys, bought the weapons and armours that are now exposed in his villa in Florence. Travel after travel and purchase after purchase, now the Stibbert Museum boasts one of the most important and complete collections of weapons and armours in the world. Strolling among the pieces dating back from the Middle Ages to the Napoleonic age will be an exciting experience both for children and adults.
Other museums to visit in Florence are the Archaeological Museum, the Opificio delle Pietre Dure, Galileo Museum (once called Museo della Storia della Scienza), the Bargello...
