Villa Fabbricotti owes its name to Giuseppe Fabbricotti, who bought it in 1864. In the 14th century, it was the Buoninsegni family who owned the building. Then, in the 15th century, the Strozzi family acquired it and transformed it into a hunting lodge called "Lo Strozzino".
After having bought the villa, Fabbricotti, who wanted it to become a luxury residence, commissioned the renovation of the building to Vincenzo Micheli. Micheli also reorganized the garden, probably following a project by the architect Giuseppe Poggi, the one who planned Viale Michelangelo and Florence boulevards.
After having been bought in 1935 by the Italian government and having been the object of a litigation, at present Villa Fabbricotti belongs to the Municipality of Florence.
In the past, Elisa Baciocchi, Napoleon`s sister and Grand Duchess of Tuscany, Queen Victoria and many other personalities stayed in the villa.
