Situated in Treggiaia, near Pontedera, Villa La Cava was originally a farm. Documents dating back to the half of the 16th century report that at that time the estate belonged to the Florentine Riccardi family.

During the 17th century the villa was refurbished and embellished, thus becoming one of the most admired villas in the whole province of Pisa.

The villa owes its present aspect to Giuseppe and Nello Toscanelli, who acquired the property at the half of the 18th century. They also transformed the neighbouring oak wood into a magnificent park rich in firs, beeches, holm-oaks, lime trees and other exotic species, such as atlas cedars and Arizona cypresses.
