Villa Guerrazzi owes its name to Francesco Domenico Guerrazzi, the famous politician and writer of the Italian Risorgimento, who lived there from 1868 until he died in 1873.
The villa was built in the second half of the 18th century by order of the Grand Duke. Originally, the structure served for accommodating the casual labour who worked in the surrounding fields. It was only in the 19th century, after the area around the building had been reclaimed, that the structure was transformed into a real farm. Guerrazzi bought the farm in 1868 and transformed it into a villa.
The villa and the appurtenances once devoted to agricultural activities are immersed in the gorgeous wooded park stretching not far from the sea.
