Borgo San Lorenzo has very ancient origins. The first traces of residential settlements date back to even before the Etruscan period. Its long history together with its key position for trades, nearby the two main roads connecting the valley to the city of Florence, made of it a town rich in interesting things to see.
In the centre of the town you can visit the Palazzo Pretorio, nowadays seat of the municipality itself, Villa Pecori Girardi with its beautiful liberty style apartments and its Reinassance ceramic museum. Inside the villa you will also be able to visit the Museo della Manifattura Chini where the memorable ceramic workshop has realised decorations and objects in ceramic both for the churches and the great villas of the Mugello territory.
Of course there is no lack of religious builidings: from the Pieve di San Lorenzo, to the Pieve di San Cresci in Valcava, to the Oratorio della Madonna dei Tre Fiumi.
Apart from the sites of artistic interest, Borgo San Lorenzo is nice to visit in itself, just to spend a holiday afternoon or evening. This thanks to the numerous festivals and events that are being organized the whole year round and especially in the summer, during the celebrations for the patron saint, San Lorenzo, on August 11th. You could then partecipate to fairs of typical food products, or spend an evening outside watching a movie in an open-air cinema.
