Villa Catignano was built in the second half of the 16th century by order of Monsignor Lodovico Sergardi, who in the academic environment is better known as Quinto Settano. A century later, Claudio Sergardi had it renovated.
Two staircases at the sides of the austere building lacking in particular decorative elements - apart from the coat of arm of the Sergardi family at the south-eastern corner - lead to the garden, which is divided into various sectors. The flower beds bordered with box hedges leave the place to the lemon-house; a holm-oak hedge surrounds a group of statues representing the Four Seasons.
A cypress pathway at the back of the lemon-house stretches towards the belvedere surrounded by holm-oaks and cypresses.
