The Cenami family purchased Villa Cenami Mansi, situated in Segromigno Monte, a hamlet in the municipality of Capannori, in 1599. At that time the villa belonged to Nicolao Benedetti. In the 1630s the Cenami family commissioned architect Muzio Oddi to refurbish the building.
The villa was sold to the Mansi family in 1675 and then renovated for the second time in 1742 by abbot Giovan Francesco Giusti. The frescoes decorating the hall are by the Neoclassical painter Stefano Tofanelli and date back to the end of the 18th century.
At the end of the 18th century Filippo Juvarra, from Messina, was commissioned to re-organise the park. The architect transformed the old Renaissance garden into a flamboyant baroque garden. A few years later, however, the garden was - at least in part - replaced by an English garden that better met the romantic taste characterising the 19th century.
