The elegant structure of Villa Tommasi Aliotti is immersed in the wonderful Tuscan countryside surrounding Cortona, in the province of Arezzo, and owes its name to one of the most important families living in the area.
In origin an aristocratic country residence, the severe building dates back to the 16th century. In the second half of the 18th century Niccolò di Annibale Tommasi, Knight of the Order of Saint Stephen, commissioned its renovation; the building was transformed into a real aristocratic villa. It is right in this period that the brick entrance portal, the chapel and the Gothic-style lemon-greenhouse were built.
In 1875 Luigi Tommasi commissioned a project for the renovation and the enlargement of the villa to engineer Narciso Frosali. A rooftop loggia and the two lateral wings were built and the villa assumed its present aspect. An oval pool was realised in front of the building.
The land at the back of the building is divided into a park, decorated with statues scattered among exotic plants and long-stemmed trees, and an area dedicated to agricultural activities.
