The fortress of the Guidi Counts in Poppi is defined as the most beautiful castle in Arezzo. It stands in the upper part of the medieval hamlet and houses a museum devoted to the battle of Campaldino (for more information read the following chapter) and the Rilliana Library.
Not far from the village of Pratovecchio, the ruins of the castle of Romena can nowadays be visited paying a ticket.
The castle of Porciano is situated in the municipality of Stia. The first documents mentioning it date back to the first decades of the 11th century. A curious legend goes that Dante Alighieri lived there after he was exiled from Florence. According to an even weirder legend a golden bell of inestimable value is hidden in its walls.
At present, it houses a small collection of pieces that have been found in the area during the restoration works.
