Description

The 16th century castle stands on a hill in Maremma, in an area of the province of Grosseto rich in Etruscan and Roman settlements, as demonstrate the ruins dating back to the 1st century BC situated in the estate. These are the ruins of one of the most beautiful Roman villas in the area, which date from the time of Trajan emperorship.

The castle, which has been declared historic residence and national monument, stand in panoramic position about 2 kilometres from the sea; the windows and the garden afford a view of the Tyrrhenian Sea in the distance.

Maremma offers wonderful deep waters to those who love scuba diving, whereas the Parco Naturale della Maremma is within easy driving distance.


The Outdoors

The castle is surrounded by a 10,000-square-metre flower garden with a wide pinewood, and by other 10 hectares of coppice wood and century-old olive trees.

The private swimming pool (8x13,50 m; depth: 1.50-1.70 m) that lies about 15 metres from the building is equipped with sun loungers, deck chairs and sunshades. Next to the swimming pool are also a bathroom and an outdoor shower.

About 500 metres from the castle are the ruins of a Roman villa dating from the 1st century BC and featuring a large cryptoporticus and fortified walls.

The castle is a three-storey building that sleeps 13+1 guests in 3 double bedrooms, 2 twin bedrooms, 3 single bedrooms and 1 supplementary single bed, and has 6 bathrooms and 1 half bathroom.

The rooms are furnished with period and antique items and handmade terracotta-tiled floors. The vault brick ceiling in the dining room date from the 18th century and has been carefully renovated.
